When I started building guitars in the early seventies I bought a couple books to get started looking back now they were all pretty vague. Most books seem to have just more information than you really need, right now I’m looking in a fret work book (Stew Mac shop book) 125 pages maybe 20 are worth reading.
To me the problem with most books you’re reading somebody’s method of building a guitar now you’ve been ready post and looking at pics in this forum so you can see there is 65 deferent ways to build a neck and they all work. So as Edgemarc said there’s more information in this forum You probably have learned more from just looking at this forum already than from reading books. I’ve been building guitars for a long time as a hobby I recently found this forum; I’ve got all kinds of crazy ideas to try now. The only book I recommend is Guitars Players Repair guide ($20 Amazon) this is the book for when your done building your guitar, Care, set up, repair, factory specs, It’s just a wealth of information has a bit of everything and at least 50 good pages. Probably the two best books on electric guitar building are Make Your Own Electric Guitar by Melvyn Hiscock and Build Your Own Electric Guitar by Martin Oakham. You should probably get them both. The Oakham book is really great.
Hundreds of color pictures and diagrams. I think it goes into greater detail. The Hiscock has black and white pictures. Not as much detail. Haven't looked at them for a while but after thumbing through them both just now I'd have to say the Oakham book is definitely superior.
